Eventide

Post by njh »

As you will no doubt have noticed, I have not been very productive as of late in the brass band composition and arranging field. So much so that a number of people have asked if I’ve stopped writing music, or at least have moved into other fields since my successes with Hymn Without Words for symphonic wind band, and Universe for orchestra.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve been keeping myself busy by continuing to work as an ambassador for the British brass band genre in the U.S. (on my recent tour I worked with 4 bands) and completing my M. Phil in free composition at the University of Leeds (I graduated this Tuesday).

I am pleased to say that my silence has ended. Eventide is a composition inspired by the hymn tune Abide With Me. Suitable for bands of 3rd or 2nd section standard, it can be used as a test piece, or on the concert stage where Eventide will perfectly fill the rôle of an overture in concerts following the march as the second item on a concert. A sample of the score can be downloaded from http://www.bandsman.co.uk/eventide.htm.
