I have started learning trombone (I used to play sop but cant anymore because of dental work ) I have noticed that alot of old trombone copies especially marches are written in tenor clef and I only read treble.. I discovered today that if I knock off 2flats from the key signature and then convert the number of remaining flats to treble clef equivalent (eg.. 5flats...knock of two and imagine the 3 remaining ones are E ,B and A flat ) then just play the piece as if it was treble clef....its sounds fine !
DOES THAT ACTUALLY WORK ??
"cheating" in tenor clef
Re: "cheating" in tenor clef
Yes, that works, the tenor clef parts are in concert pitch. It's the same technique Eb bass players can adopt for reading bass clef parts.
