Timing and lips

Post by thecelt1 »

Hi, Hope you can help. I have started playing Bb Cornet again after 25 yrs. I have been playing since Christmas so 7 months and play solo cornet with 3 bands, the problem i have is two fold. Ist problem is unsual and that when I play a concert or practice, when there is a break of 10 -15 mins when I come back to play my lips dont seem to want to play from D on stave to above stave G its takes about 5 mins to get back in roughly any idea's how to help. The next problem is timing, I am sight reading a lot which is good so will help with timing etc but, I am slightly better than I was 25 years ago with timing as I rushed all the time. I still seem to have problems with timing as I am visual and like to see the beat rather than listen, should I get a metronome and earphones and literally listen to beat in head phones or do I count in my head for example 6/8 timing. Sorry for the long winded post.
