Trombones
Ok, I'm seriously having trouble on which Trombone to go for.
I've set my sights on a Bb/F Trombone with Thayer Valve (Axial)
But..... Which one do I get?
Bach 42T
Courtois 420T
Edwards Custom Thayer
Kanstul Sig Series Thayer
I Like the Bach 42T but i;ve heard theyr are rather thin - what difference does this make to the sound I produce (you'd think that after 11 years of playing expereince I should know this...)
The Courtois is slightly out of my Budget (by about £1000 but special offer and can probably afford)
The Edwards - same out my budget but would probably stretch if worthwhile.
Kanstul - posted this in an earlier topic but no-one seemed to reply. USA Made but no-one over deals with them (so I dont know the prices..)
Help me please....

Then I suggest, unless someone comes back with longer term quality problems, that you go with that one. Sounds like you've answered your own question!gcb_trombone wrote:ll of them! funnily enough though i do quite like the BACH 42 T

True, I probably have but I only like it for it's looks, as I prefer a trombone that has the same colour brass throughout - not rose colour, but not gold colour either - somewhere in between and the 42T fits perfectly.
Plus I like it because a guy called Scot Hartman plays one - he played it on a CD - Little Buckaroos which I posted a topic of a while ago, and after hearing what it sounds like (obviously I won't be able to get it that good...) it seems like a nice trombone to play.

Dagnammit, how does it play? What does it sound like? Does it complement your playing style? Is it worth the massive amount of cash it's going to cost, or will it have the inherent sound of a farting gnat?True, I probably have but I only like it for it's looks
What's more important, a nice shiny trom, or a trom that sounds frigging brilliant? Play 'em before you buy 'em.
Um ... sorry for swearing ... and good luck!

Well living in Guernsey, there aint a music over here that deals with Bach Instruments - well there is but its mainly violins etc..
Trevor Jones in Manchester is the place i forst saw it (net) but i dont want to spend £150 goin up there to try it out.
Id probably buy, it - try it, if I don;t like it, Ill try and sel it to one of my mates.

well my mate plays a yammie ysl448 and a king the same as me - he prefers his yammie, but it tends to rattle a bit on loud and heavy stuff. the 2nd plays a besson sovereign - cnt remember what model it is - if there is a model for them, and the bass plays a yammie bass - again, dont know what the model is.
I know you may say - go for a yamaha...
But the troms that i like arent made by them - they only come with the standard rotary valve, and while that maybe a stuitable valve, i want to buy something different - not because I don't yamahas.

Your best choice is to use the same as the rest of the section use. If you really can't get on with it, ensure that you get one which blends well with the rest of the section - the last thing to buy is something you love but sticks out in the band because it doesn't blend.

Would I be right to guess that they were judged to be perfect for brass bands by the salesmen? Funny how they always seem to have the perfect solution!
Why not choose a trombone with your 'mate'? That way you can both be happy and have properly blended instruments for the band.
